Lida Pida continuation

Day 5 – Saturday, July 23

This morning was rainy and we were trying to wait for the rain to stop before putting down our tents. Anyway they were wet. The main destination of that day was a Belgian town Brugge. A really nice old town with traditional houses, big towers and, as it seemed to me, amazing shopping! Going more into detail about shopping, all stores seemed so nice and filled with a selection of everything you might want:) Unfortunately, we were quite short of time and the only place I could visit shortly was Miss Sixty, which I just can't miss when I see it:) The result was a tice little jacket! Another good thing about Brugge was food. First part included a salad with warm goat cheese on bread and kedrovye oreshki. The second part was waffel with fresh strawberries. It was a bit too sweet but otherwise absolutely delicious. Actually any visit of any town for us is finding a place to eat in the first place:) So this town was a good one! After Brugge we headed for France (staying in the same country for more than one night before reaching France wasn't our goal!). Being aware of plentiful toll roads of France and being bored by the motorways quite much we selected a ”scenic route” to Amiens. Even though the whole route to the place was quite small we didn't regret it for a minute. The road went through many small villages like a snake left and right, up and down. Taavi was definitely the happiest person in the world:))) The first impression of Amiens wasn't the best. The city greeted us with a bunch of block of flats which more reminded me Russia than any Central European country. The downtown was again old and quite ”tiny”. Without knowing any place for camping in Amiens we happily saw an Acadaine te driver of which we immediatelly asked whether he knew any place. A very typical French guy probably in his 50's understood us (yes, understood, this is not so common here!) and told us to follow him. Amazingly our camping turned out to be a special free 2cv camping for those who were travelling to Salbris and stopped in Amiens for a night or two. The place was located it a rich and very well taken care of place adjucent to a football field. Unfortunately, the toilet didn't have plastic seat and the shower cabins were not separated and the water was cold, but still it was a nice place to stay. Our biggest thing of the evening with Taavi was a playful kitty who we met in the neighbourhood. A French little girl was long time without stopping telling us the story of this kitty, but we didn't understand much. After we left that place the kitty follwed us all the way to the camping and was even eating Konsta's tomato-mushroom sauce for pasta:) In addition it was running like a horse and also stayed in our camp overnight!

Day 6 – Sunday, July 24

When we woke up Taavi told me ”At night I saw that a cat came to our tent and said ”miau”!”. Shortly after we started breakfast the kitty appeared and immediately started to enjoy milk offered by a British guy. That day was a Normandy day. First stop was Etretat recommended by Flavie. It was a great scenery and yammie ice-cream. The rocks looked really magnificent! And dangerous also:) There was even some accident that happened, we are not sure what it was, but probably nobody fell from the rocks to the beach, but somebody just tripped on the beach. Boys Ville and Heikki were really excited about the Star Kebab and went to eat there, the rest of us went to a small restaurant, where I ordered white fish with almonds, served with creamy macaronis and baked vegetables. There wasn't much on the plate, but it was definitely enough for me:) Later this day we went to Arromanches-les-Bains a small town on La Manche where we stayed overnight. I went running on the beach and enjoyed the fresh sea wind. On the same day Taavi cooked amazingly delicious aubergines with garlic and with rice.

Day 7 – Monday, July 25

The first half of the day was devoted to 2nd World War memorials. Omaha beach, American graveyard of more than 8 thousand white crosses in strict geometrical order. Since I am not a big fan of this kind of places I mostly enjoyed the beach and the beautiful day. On the beach we also saw a totally new thing for me called land yachting. Sad that we didn't test it. With this kind of a gang it could be a good material for some amusement TV show. We stopped later in Dreux for dinner. Some 2CV friends from US had a house rented there. 400 years old house and quite an area around it! After cooking, eating dinner and messing up the kitchen with the camping dishes we decided to move further to check the situation around the world meeting place. The drive was quite annoying and when we arrived to the place everybody was already really tired. We saw already huge number of 2CVs waiting for the morning, but it was still the whole night ahead. I was extra tired and annoyed. I just wanted to sleep and nothing else. This time instead of putting up Taavi's huge tent Konsta's spare tent was a better solution. Taavi put it up quickly in some strange place close to the possible world meeting place and we started to sleep. Unfortunately, that didn't last as long as we would have liked.

Day 8 – Tuesday, July 26

In the morning the organizers started to idle their cars and blink lights next to our tents. We had to get out of there pack the cars and wait for what was going to happen. We found out that the real camping place was different from the parking place, but anyway we had to go to the parking first and get our entrance package. Everything was organized pretty horribly, the cars were queueing, turning, blocking the main road of the town and hardly moving anywhere. The gate opened at about 7:30 and at 10:30 we already started camping. It was a pretty good result because as we found out later some people were waiting in the line up to 12 hours and some had to camp straight in the parking area (and some even along the road!). So there was nothing else on that day but watching cars coming and coming to the area.

Day 9 – Wednesday, July 27

No special impressions of that day. Just hanging around... We didn't meet many people either.

Day 10 – Thursday, July 28

The Thursday trip to Paris went fine without any surprises. The railway ticket Salbris-Paris Austerlitz cost 26.50 one way which wasn't any cheaper than in Finland. We visited Citroën exhibition in Champs Elysees where we were also “driving rally with Loeb and Ogier” in 4G cinema. That was funny but not at all scary and maybe not that worth of all the waiting time.

Day 11 – Friday, July 29

Fourth world meeting day went also quite fast without any special things happening. In the evening we finally found Taavi's dad's camp and spent there the rest of the evening. There I met a lot of nice people from different countries and even spoke Russian!
